DMITRIY PERMIAKOV was born in 1983 in Kirov (Russia). In 2003, he graduated from the Vyatka School of Arts, then in 2010, he got his degree from the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. He is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia.
DMITRIY PERMIAKOV is often compared to the French Impressionists. Yet, it seems that this comparison is not entirely accurate. Permiakov’s Impressionism is indigenous, Russian-made, with a bold sense of naughtiness, irony, and, at the same time, a subtle hint of the grotesque and “Russian melancholy”. Permiakov’s paintings reveal a universal understanding of the preciousness of human life, woven from countless moments, events, and impressions. His impetuous, temperamental brushstrokes represent not only the rendering of an immediate impression through oil on canvas, but also an attempt to capture an additional dimension—the sense of the time flow, the rustling of leaves, the smells of spring snow melting, the warm summer earth, or freshly mown grass.
While remaining focused on addressing coloristic issues, Permiakov becomes an attentive researcher of the developments in Russian art in a sociocultural context. On the one hand, his paintings demonstrate a self-ironic approach to art as a “Russian souvenir,” as a product on the global art market. On the other hand, considering issues of preserving national identity, working with the “Russian myth,” stereotypes of thought, and local folklore, he is faithful above all to the tradition of painting.
DMITRIY PERMIAKOV is an active participant in Russian and international exhibitions. Since 2018, he has held seven solo exhibitions in Saint Peter Port, Guernsey (UK). His paintings are exhibited in galleries and private collections in Russia, the UK, Italy, Germany, France, and China.
